Adaptation of the Turkish horror film Siccîn (2014)
Chronology
A young woman who threatens her cousin’s wife with black magic… Before the movie starts, there is a short trailer for Residence of Satan (2023).
Remake of Siccîn (2014)
"Sickness" unfortunately it didn’t work for me. As a Muslim, I found several aspects of the film deeply problematic.
Second, the inclusion of black magic as a central theme was a major turning point
First of all, the poster itself looked depressing, the images leaning heavily towards the dark and sinister mood. It didn’t tempt me to dig deeper, instead raising concerns about the film’s potential disrespect for my faith.
Black magic is strictly forbidden in Islam, and its portrayal in the film seemed exploitative and sensationalist
This was not only disrespectful but also inaccurate as it does not represent the true essence of Islamic beliefs and practices. While I can’t speak for everyone, I think “Sijjin” has gone astray in handling sensitive religious topics.
It would have greatly benefited from a more nuanced and respectful approach to Islam, both visually and narratively
