A cast of interesting characters in dire situations trying to contain a maple syrup theft to save their financial woes
Chronology
When maple syrup farmer Ruth Landry finds her livelihood under attack from greedy competitors who were once her friends, she plots revenge and shakes up the industry. Loosely based on the 2011-2012 theft of $18 million worth of maple syrup from a Quebec warehouse; five people were sentenced to prison. Ruth, whose husband is in a coma, has lost her right to sell maple syrup to a cartel led by Leonard.
He is the sole guardian of the entire maple syrup supply
It turns out that her husband has the rights to harvest the syrup, so she is fined for illegally using his rights. Remy, a somewhat sad hero, is the guard at the warehouse where all the syrup is stored and used to take a barrel or two out of the warehouse at night with a friend who was unexpectedly murdered. With Ruth facing financial problems, the only way out was to steal on a much larger scale, and she and Remy brought Mike into the plan.
The truth is completely different
Mike is seen as a powerhouse who can do big things. And with all the personality clashes and mistakes, it almost becomes a Keystone Police Scandal. Every time they seem to have everything under control, trouble happens, and their approach to trying to fix it is a great piece of humor.
And a very interesting cameo
The twist is that it leads into a second season, so there are a lot of loose ends. And as made clear, the theft didn’t actually happen that way. So it’s a fun fictional story.
