American (English) remake of the French series HPI (2021)
Chronology
Follow Morgan, a single mother of three, and how her extraordinary mind enables her to help solve a crime as she organizes evidence in her turn as a cleaner at the police department. Despite his extremely high IQ, excellent memory, and extensive knowledge of the mystery, Morgan makes a series of basic mistakes in the law that anyone who has ever watched a TV legal show would not know to make. In the first episode, for example, he retrieves a document from a locked safe at the suspected victim’s law firm that would never be admissible in court—illegally obtained evidence.
Remake of HPI (2021)
Nor could it be used to obtain other evidence—violating the legal doctrine of “fruit of the poisonous tree.” In Episode 2, he has to be reminded to wear gloves before handling evidence at the crime scene, and in Episode 3, he removes all documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of custody and making anything he removed inadmissible in court. Ok, the series is off to a great start, with Kaitlin Olson giving a solid performance. The series is very similar to the TBS series Monk, where a borderline Asperger’s person helps the police solve crimes.
In this episode, he is too smug and blocks the case
Again, the series is solid so far, but not as quirky or fun to watch as Monk, but it’s a fun watch. Episode 3 is where it really goes off the rails and I hope episode 4 really picks up. He takes evidence from the police station, he manipulates the evidence and contaminates it.
A tactic that negates the point
AFTERBIRTH? Zero… It’s almost disturbing how annoying he is in this episode.
Again, I hope it gets better with episode 4
He shows little or no evidence of self-awareness or remorse.
