Director Fed Alvarez from Alien 2 (1986) was looking for a special effects team to work on the creatures
Chronology
While scouring the depths of an abandoned space station, a group of young space colonists encounter the most terrifying life form in the universe. “Alien: Romulus”; stars Kaylee Spaeny and Isabel Merced reveal why director Fed Alvarez used practical effects and animatronic xenomorphs to scare his cast. Physical sets, practical creatures and miniatures were used whenever possible to help ground the later VFX work. When Rain shuts down the ship’s gravity and shoots all the aliens, all their blood is suspended in the air in long, stain-like patterns. . Zero gravity in real life causes liquids to form sphere shapes instead of breaking up into long, flat pieces like in the movie.

Andy: The solution for a claustrophobic astronaut is to give him more space. The 20th Century Studios fanfare freezes and turns ominous, as in Alien 3 (1992), leading up to the film’s opening scene. The logo itself suffers from static and turns green. Featured in Nerdrotic: The Acolyte: Force is Female CONFIRMED? Death of Theaters – Real BBC @MauLer @HeelvsBabyface (2024). My first realization was that there was simply nothing to get emotionally invested in – the story or the characters.
The monster breaks free and starts killing everyone
The characters just came off as cardboard cutouts, had no story arcs, no real emotional content that you could relate to. The story was pretty much just recycled from the previous Alien movies. There was no drama or tension building as a result. You almost know exactly how things are going to play out shortly after being introduced to the characters and the setting. Oh, and let’s throw in a thumbs up about how evil corporations are, just for flavor. Which, given the way it was done, looked more like an eye roll than something to communicate.
"Space" those, that is
The only thing that saved the movie was the special effects. The creature effects were just more than what has been seen in all the previous films. But they did a really good job with the physics with the space shots. They were really fun to watch. But that was pretty much it. Nothing new, nothing to surprise anyone.
Just another "Alien" movie, one at a time
Ho hum.. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping a dystopia, or making the world a better place, these women are science fiction.
